Work from weight. A cubic yard of damp soil is substantially heavier than most buyers estimate, and two or three yards is a serious load on a one-ton once the body itself is accounted for. Get the installed body weight from your upfitter in writing and subtract it, along with tools, fuel and crew, before deciding what you can carry.
